Compensation for cadets in 1974 Valcartier grenade accident

Gerry Fostaty, who wrote As You Were: The Tragedy at Valcartier, was the driving force behind the battle to have the government provide financial compensation for the cadets who were killed or injured in Valcartier in 1974.

On July 30, 1974, [at CFB Valcartier] a roomful of 137 cadets was learning about the handling of explosive devices when a live grenade (accidentally included with the dummies) exploded, killing six cadets and seriously injuring 54 others, although over 90 were seen by emergency personnel that day.
