James C. LaBar

It is with great sadness that the family of James (Jimmy) Charles LaBar announce his passing on March 12, 2019, at Cité de la Santé hospital in Laval, Québec, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 24, 1943, in Northampton, England to Alma and Bill LaBar (deceased 1968).

He leaves behind his loving children: Bobby (Marie-Claude Landry), Eric (Jeannette Mazur), Kimberly (Christophe Blin), Julie and Karen (Ghislain Carpentier) Sommerville; his cherished grandchildren, his loving wife Louise Morin and former partner Normande Furlotte. He also leaves behind his mother Alma, his siblings: Steven (Monique Bellemare), Vance (Christine Portelance), Harvey (Anne Simons), Bobby (deceased 1963), Karen (John Neal), as well as many nephews and nieces.

Jimmy attended Quebec High School and was a star athlete on the football, hockey and track and field teams. This love of sports continued throughout his life as Jimmy coached many young athletes and was a football referee for many years.

Jimmy worked for Lignosol Chemicals and later in the transportation department at Anglo Canadian Pulp and Paper. After retirement, he and Louise moved to Pointe-Calumet. There he enjoyed going fishing, barbecuing, working on a family apple orchard and caring for his property and garden.

The family will receive condolences from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. followed by a celebration of life on Saturday, April 6 at 3 p.m. at the Coop Funéraire des Deux Rives, 693 rue Nérée-Tremblay, Québec, QC G1N 4R8. Donations in Jimmy’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
