Mrs. Marcia Louise Theriault passed away in Quebec City on December 17, 2017, after a short illness. She was 81 years old. She grew up in Hanover, New Hampshire, and loved to swim and figure skate. Her career as an educator, translator and reviser in the U.S., France, New Brunswick and Quebec spanned over 47 years after graduation in 1957 from Gould Academy at Hood College. Most notably, she worked for the Quebec government’s National Assembly, and the Ministries of Communications and Revenue. She was known for her ability to work under extremely demanding circumstances. For instance, she was in charge of the stylistic revision of the Quebec Budget Speech for nine years. In retirement, her skill and competence was unparalleled in preparing translators to sit for the OTTIAQ examinations or in mentoring freelance translators working in Quebec. She loved music, poetry and making her numerous friends and acquaintances laugh. The Quebec Art Company held a special place in her heart. She will be forever remembered by her brother George (Celia), her daughter Michèle (Christian) and her son Alain (Patricia). “I hold your hand in mine.”
A celebration of her life will take place on January 27 at 2 p.m. at Place Alexandra, 2475 Rue Alexandra, Quebec City, G1E 7A8. All are welcome. Donations in her memory can be made to the Quebec Lung Association
