Wellness Centre offers new workshops for families with young children



The Wellness Centre is offering several new parent know-how workshops at the community Wellness Centre for English-speaking families with young children. These activities are free of charge and space is limited, so register early by calling Jan Anderson, community organizer, at 418 684-5333, ext. 1539. Is My Child on Track: Speech and language in children under five years old: Tuesday, October 3, 6:45 to 8 p.m. with members of the early childhood team from Jeffery Hale Community Services and speech-language pathologists – Get a better idea of what is “normal” when it comes to speech and language in young children and ask questions about your child.



Speech Therapy Screening Clinics: Wednesday, October 11, 8:30 a.m. to noon OR Saturday, October 14, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a speech-language pathologist – Screen your child for delays in speech and language abilities that are often easier to address at a young age.



Get Ready for Kindergarten: Tuesday, October 24, at 6 p.m. with psycho-educator Julie Fraser – Things you can do as a family to help your child get off to a good start at school.



Making music together: Drop-in music workshops for you AND your little one(s) aged six months to five years: Monday mornings, 10 a.m. with an instructor from Mini Menuet, a local non-profit organization. These guided music workshops using maracas, dancing scarves, and rhythm sticks that engage and develop your child’s fine motor skills. No need to register for this one! Just come as you are!



Breastfeeding Get-together: Once a month on Tuesdays, September 26, October 31 and November 28, at 10 a.m. with a certified Breastfeeding Consultant from Allaitement Québec. A scale is available to check baby’s growth.
