The Megantic English-speaking Community Development Corporation (MCDC), recently launched I read, therefore I am, a book aimed at promoting literacy among youth, produced in collaboration with St. Patrick Elementary and A.S. Johnson High School in Thetford Mines.

Normally, Bill Cox prepares the weekly “Street Views” column, but because I have an unusual connection to the person after whom this new street in Charlesbourg is named, I felt I had to write a “view” of this particular one.

Faithful worshippers gathered in Old Quebec on Good Friday evening for solemn,  dramatic reads from the Passion according to Saint John. They walked silently through the streets from one church to another while taking turns carrying a large wooden cross. 

Winners of St. Patrick’s High School Public Speaking competition

Students at St. Patrick’s High School hold a Public Speaking competition every year and this year’s speakers certainly had a lot of interesting things to talk about! The competitions were held on April 5 and 6 in the school auditorium.

There’s nothing like a Lip-Sync Idol at the EQLC

Students at the Eastern Quebec Learning Centre (EQLC) gathered in the cafeteria last Thursday for the fun event of the semester: the eighth annual Lip-Sync Idol singing competition. Six students took up the challenge this year to lip sync a song before their fellow students, teachers and four judges.

Montreal Orchestra Company brings video games to life

Video game and classical music enthusiasts entered the Palais Montcalm on April 12 for the Montreal Orchestra Company’s presentation of The Video Game Musical Odyssey, a concert featuring music composed for popular video games.

Those attending the event had the opportunity to play video games in the entry hall before and after the concert, and during intermission.

St. Lawrence students honoured for their projects

The OSEntreprendre Challenge honored student projects on April 4, during the annual local gala. Three St. Lawrence projects qualified in the individual and group projects.
