Artistic jazz concert lights up Morrin Centre

It was still broad daylight when the Daniel Arthur Trio took to the stage in College Hall at the Morrin Centre on Aug. 3, but a few strummed notes from bassist Éric Maillé and some inspired mood lighting were all it took to create an enthralling jazz ambiance.

Kids enjoy Arts Alive! music workshop

Children gather around singer-songwriter and children’s book author Lp Camozzi during the Arts Alive! Québec festival at the Morrin Centre on Aug. 4. He entertained them with songs such as “The Backpack Blues,” and “Hey, Little Girl” and showed them how to play the spoons while he played guitar and mouth organ.

Tchaikovsky and the Russians full of storm and passion

Tempêtes & Passions put legendary Russian composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and several of his lesser-known compatriots in the spotlight during the Festival d’Opéra de Québec on Aug. 5.

Les Grands Feux Loto-Québec open with a little bit of country

People wearing cowboy hats, boots, jeans and plaid shirts danced their way through the evening of Aug. 2, as the 24th Grands Feux Loto-Québec (GFLQ) marked its opening. Country music and line dancing were on the schedule before the sky lit up with 3,500 fireworks. The GFLQ continue through Aug. 23 with thematic shows on Thursdays and Saturdays.

New France festivities bring history to life in Lower Town

Elegantly dressed noblemen and noblewomen in 17th- and 18th-century attire, members of the bourgeoisie and simple peasants appeared throughout Quebec City’s Lower Town during the 22nd annual Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France (FNF), dressed as if they had just stepped from the pages of history. 

Mozart’s Magic Flute enchants audiences

The major production of this year’s Festival d’Opéra de Québec was La Flûte Enchantée or The Magic Flute, one of Mozart’s final compositions, which premiered in Vienna in 1791, just two months before his premature death at age 35.

It’s becoming a preseason tradition for the Université Laval men’s basketball program. For the past 10 years, they have hosted a series of NCAA basketball teams at different levels every summer.

OBITUARY: William Lynn HICKS June 27, 1934 - July 30, 2018

Lynn passed away at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto, Ont. with family by his side.
