Mad Hatter Tea party held at Valcartier Elementary School

Valcartier Elementary School whisked parents and children to Wonderland for a tea party on Thursday, Jan. 25, in celebration of Family Literacy Week. Approximately 40 people attended, and enjoyed the soup and sandwiches made by Valcartier Elementary’s own Cooking Club, not to mention a wide variety of tea from authentic china cups.

A night to remember at the Château Frontenac

The Fairmont le Château Frontenac hotel hosted a gala cocktail party Thursday to kick off events celebrating the world-famous hotel’s 125th anniversary.

Among the 500 guests were some 140 media representatives from seven countries.

Snow sculptors from across Canada gathered at Place George-V for the national edition of the International Snow Sculpting Competition, traditionally held as part of the Quebec Winter Carnival. This year, six teams from Montreal, Quebec City, Beauce, Charny, the Eastern Townships and British Columbia competed. They started chopping huge chunks of snow from the giant blocks on Jan.

Conversations swirled around Aymen Derbali. Several of them were about him, or more specifically, about how to make sure he made his appointment with the adaptive transit van that would get him and his motorized wheelchair back to the rehabilitation facility where he has spent much of the last year. But Derbali himself spoke mostly about others.

The 24th Salon Industrie et Machinerie Agricole de Québec was held Jan. 25-27 at ExpoCité. Bags with the quote “When you live agriculture, you love agriculture” were handed out to visitors by Farm Credit Canada as they entered the exhibition hall.

Getting snow off a roof takes planning

Falls, getting buried in snow, electrocution, heart trouble, injuries, hypothermia, frostbite … removing snow from your roof is a risky business. The Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) wishes to remind the community of the importance of good planning for accident prevention.

Tuesday, Jan 30, 5 p.m. – Moms’ Nite Out at the Spa! MNO activities are organized by English-speaking volunteer moms with support from Wellness Centre (WE) staff. Some events are just for moms, others for both parents and many are for the whole family. MNO often takes place in the WE in the Jeffery Hale Pavilion, room 1135, but not always.

QHS alumnus Lewis Irving to compete in Pyeongchang Olympic Games

Freestyle skier and Quebec High School graduate Lewis Irving has his ticket for the upcoming Winter Olympics, to be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Feb. 9-25.

Irving, 22, got the word on Jan. 22. His fourth-place finish at a World Cup event in Deer Valley, Utah, in February 2016, and a bronze medal last December at an event in China sealed his invitation to South Korea.

QHS senior girls sweep Arsenal, still undefeated

The Quebec High School senior girls basketball team is having a dream season. The Blazers swept a doubleheader against the Académie Saint-Louis Arsenal on Jan. 24 to take a commanding lead atop the division 2 conference of the Réseau du Sport Étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), in the Québec-Chaudière-Appalaches region. The QHS seniors dominated the Arsenal 49-39.
