At the end of every day, trash that cannot be recycled or reused is covered with a layer of sand and compressed by a bulldozer to prevent rodents and birds from getting into the pile.

We’re a long way from the days when we got rid of our garbage by throwing it into an open-air dump. Now, new technology helps us reduce, reuse, recycle and recover many materials.
