Wherever there’s a Scottish community, you’ll probably find a Burns Supper. Burns Night is celebrated in over 150 countries around the world. Ruby Pratka, our former copy editing assistant and current “Postcards from Africa” columnist, sent this picture postcard from a Burns Supper she attended in Dar es Salaam. Some 50 people were at the event, hosted by the Caledonian Society of Tanganyika. There was plenty of whisky and authentic haggis on offer, and a joyous and chaotic ceilidh followed. South African pipe-and-drum duo Nick & Jonno (pictured) provided a lively piping-in and some festive Afro-Scottish fusion music.
