Demolition of Grande Allée church steps up

Machines make short work of the deteriorating 100-year-old Saint-Coeur-de-Marie church on Grande Allée.

The demolition of Église Saint-Coeur-de-Marie on Grande Allée accelerated last week as the work became less delicate. Last summer workers painstakingly dismantled the ornate Neo-Byzantine-style steeple of the church, which had been its most identifying feature. Now the power-shovels have moved in and are rapidly reducing the stone structure to rubble.
