On Nov. 20, the Boston Bruins surprised the hockey world when they fired head coach Jim Montgomery. The NHL’s coach of the year in 2022, Montgomery (seen here last October at the Videotron Centre) guided the Bruins to 135 points, a league record, in his first year behind the bench, and finished second in the Atlantic division the following season. Under Montgomery, Boston had a record of 120 wins, 41 losses in regulation and 23 losses in overtime or shootout. However, this season, the Bruins started the year with a record of 8-9-3. The Montreal native didn’t have to wait very long to find another job. Five days later, the St. Louis Blues relieved Drew Bannister of his coaching duties and replaced him with Montgomery.
