April 6 will be a day for the ages in the National Hockey League record book. At 7:26 of the second period, Alexander Ovechkin scored the 895th goal of his career, surpassing Wayne Greztky as the NHL’s all-time leading scorer. The game, played in Brooklyn against the New York Islanders, was stopped for a short ceremony where league commissioner Gary Bettman and Greztky congratulated Ovechkin. The Washington Capitals took a team picture with Ovechkin’s family and team owner Ted Leonsis before the game resumed. (LL) (screenshot)
