Fire evacuee Dan Hagon is pictured with his cats in the alley behind their apartment building.

The early morning calm in Limoilou was broken on May 12 by the sound of sirens. Thick black smoke could be seen in the air from miles away.

The first 911 call came in at 8:08 a.m. from a triplex in the 500 block of 10e Rue, where the fire had started in the tambour, the enclosed stairway at the back of the building.
