This one-room Métis Beach schoolhouse in Métis-sur-Mer, seen in the 1970s, saw generations of English-speaking students come and go. The photo (below this text) shows the current school, which opened in 2018.

Barbara Amsden has divided her time between Toronto and the tiny town of Métis-sur-Mer, east of Rimouski, for decades. Pamela Andersson’s family has lived there since the 19th century. Through their work with the community group Heritage Lower Saint Lawrence, they aim to help tourists and residents alike learn more about the historic anglophone presence in the area.
