Getting to know the common merganser

Note the difference in plumage of the common merganser: the male has a white coat and his head is a greenish black, while the female is grey and her head is brown.

It’s daybreak, and still sleepy, you get warmly dressed and put on your rubber boots to slowly and silently walk to the nearest water source, whether a river or lake. Migratory birds are passing through at this time of the year, and you hope that some have settled on the lake to rest for the night and that they have not yet left to continue their journey.
