Five dads, one grandad and nine excited children participated in the first Dadventure at Parc du Mont Wright. The youngest was Brian Garneau’s 10-month-old son Conrad (right). Luckily, there was a little roof over Brian’s backpack so Conrad didn’t get wet. Not all the participants were present when this photo was taken.

Dadventures, a new Wellness Centre initiative to support men raising children, got off to an exciting start in late September with a drizzly-but-fun hike up Mount Wright (Parc du Mont Wright). The 15 eager participants included five dads, one grandad and nine excited children from 10 months to eight years old.

Jarryd Smith, fitness coach and activity co-ordinator, reported that the outing was a great success. “We made it to the top before the rain settled in and were able to enjoy a healthy snack undercover before embracing the rain on the way down. It was a three-hour round trip, with a 20-minute break for snacks. We followed the blue and green paths (the intermediate hiking level) up to the top. The total distance was 5.8 kilometres, 2.9 km up and 2.9 km down! Elevation to the top is 342 metres. Getting wet and puddle jumping were all part of this unforgettable adventure. Memories were made, new bonds forged and nature was enjoyed by all.”

Don’t miss the next Dadventures session, the RAMP-UP for Motor Skills Rally on Saturday, Nov. 30 at Quebec High School (945 Avenue Belvédère) from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Dads, uncles, step-dads, grandpas, if you’re looking for a way to help your little ones run off some steam and increase their motor skills, sign up for this activity, which will focus on teamwork, group challenges and fun games.

Enjoy some action-packed bonding moments with your kids ages one to five in great company. For more information or to register for this free activity before the Nov. 28 deadline, please contact Ellie Fleming, [email protected] or 418-684-5333, ext. 1265.
