Submitted By Melinda Turriff, Heritage Lower St. Lawrence

To support the retention or the return of bilingual health and social services professionals in the Lower St. Lawrence region, Heritage Lower St. Lawrence (HLSL), in collaboration with McGill University via the Dialogue Program, is launching a call for applications for bursaries offered to students who will pursue full-time studies in a health or social services related field during the 2022-2023 academic year. Candidates must be able to offer services in both English and French, demonstrate that they are involved in their community, and commit to working in the Lower Saint Lawrence for at least one year after their studies.

Two categories of scholarships are currently offered. A third category, exclusively dedicated to students in programs leading to a Diploma of Vocational Studies/Diplôme d’études professionnels (DVS/DEP), will be launched in the fall of 2022.

Category 1: For bilingual full-time students registered in educational institutions located OUTSIDE of the Lower Saint Lawrence, to encourage them to return to work and live in the region after they complete their studies. The value of each bursary depends on the level of studies: $10,000 for a university program or $5,000 for a college program.

Category 2: For bilingual full-time students registered in recognized educational institutions located WITHIN the Lower Saint Lawrence, to encourage them to work and live here after they complete their studies. The value of each bursary depends on the level of studies: $5,000 for a university program or $2,500 for a college program.

To obtain the application form, the information guide or any other information, potential applicants are invited to contact Annie Lecavalier (info@heritagelsl.ca).

The deadline to submit all applications to HLSL is Monday, May 16, 2022 at 4:30 p.m.
