Photo: Jay OuelletThis was an open shutter multi-seconds exposure photograph. The International Space Station rose in spectacular fashion over Quebec City on June 26th, passing between Saturn and Mars and over the Quebec Bridge, the longest cantilever bridge in the world. In the foreground (lower right), friends sat silent and watched in awe, the first time they ever saw the ISS, learning it was flying overhead at 17,000 mph in orbit 300 miles away. In contrast, early voyagers used a somewhat slower means of, as seen here drifting on the St Lawrence River.
