The 62nd edition of the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament finally got underway May 1 at the Pavillon de la Jeunesse.
In the first game of the tournament, in the AA class, Heracles Tsoudis of the Laval Riverains scored two goals and added an assist to lead his team to a 3-2 win over the Harfangs of Quebec Nord-Est.
Also in the AA class, the Richelieu-CLL Élites downed the Quebec Gouverneurs, 5-2. The Express 1 Rive-Sud (South Shore of Montreal) needed a shootout to beat the Richelieu Grands-Ducs, 3-2. The Sherbrooke Phénix played like their big brothers in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, shutting out the Deux-Montagnes Panthères, 3-0.
Two games were played in the AA-Élites class. The Cascades Élites edged the Lac St-Louis Arsenal, 1-0, and the Charles-Lemoyne Dynamiques beat the Sherbrooke Harfangs, 2-1.
Games returned to the Videotron Centre on May 2. The little Quebec Nordiques were in action on May 3 against the Fort McMurray Jr. Oil Barons. Scores were not available at press time. The little Quebec Remparts will play their first game of the tournament against the Markham Majors on May 10, at 7:15 p.m.
Former NHL players Antoine Vermette and Simon Gagné, along with a current NHL player (whose identity will be revealed later), will sign autographs outside the SNOFest tent on Place Jean-Béliveau on May 8 at 2:00 p.m.
Note: QCT sports reporter Luc Lang will be behind the mic for approximately 20 games during the peewee tournament.
