Saving the Huron-Wendat Language

"Language is an integral part of culture; it is the essence of culture," says Linda Siouï, a member of a Linguistic Committee and Yawenda's organizer, a project set to revive the Huron-Wendat language, now defunct in preference for French, in Wendake. She has worked for many years on the cause, speaking out in her 1992 article Is there a future for the Huron Language?

Remembrance Day Event Schedule

When tourists come to Quebec City, they discover not only its history of the place but also its restaurants. As its residents, we enjoy having so many places to go to.

A few weeks ago, on October 15, a new restaurant opened on Rue Scott, off of St-Jean. It is called "La Taverna" This is a Greek restaurant, with authentic Greek food.

We must speak out together against Euthanasia-murder

Bill C-384, a bill to legalize euthanasia in Canada, is in no way comparable to Palliative Care. Euthanasia and assisted suicide will see an immediate end to a person's life, maybe without their knowledge or consent.

Last month’s Quebec City Reading Council event celebrating Literacy Day was a resounding success!

On Saturday, September 12th, more than 150 visited Eastern Quebec Learning Centre to celebrate International Literacy Day. The event was organised by the Quebec City Reading Council to raise awareness for literacy and sensitise the community to the fact that a large number of the population can't read or write as well as they would like to.

Ordination and introduction - Saint Andrew's presbyterian Church

The musical presentation is at 4pm , the service is at 5pm and there will be a reception after the service.

On Sunday October 25th a very special service will be held at Saint Andrew's presbyterian Church in Old Quebec to celebrate the ordination and induction of their new minister Reverend Katherine Burgess.  There will be a special musical presentation beginning at 4pm, followed by the service at 5pm.  A reception will follow.  All are welcome to this blessed event.

A Safe Environment for Halloween Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier

On Halloween night, in order to provide our children with a safe environment to do their trick-or-treating, Fire Safety Services will be out controlling traffic from 5:30 to 8:30 p,m,

The patrolled route is as follows:
Boulevard Valcartier (between civic numbers 1660 and Dépanneur du Village), Morley Street, Domaine St-Gabriel, Place Leduc.

Photographer Jay Ouellet last week received the thrill of a lifetime in the form of a letter from the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., requesting the use of one of his photos in an upcoming space photo exhibit entitled "Moving Beyond Earth."

October 18 - 15th Annual Craft Sale in Thetford Mines St. Patrick School Foundation event.

The 15th annual craft sale will be held at the school located at 919 rue Mooney O. Thetford Mines, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A variety of crafts, knitting and home-baked goods and lunch are available. Proceeds to fund many school programs.

Following her retirement after 30 years as a teacher of music, English and French, Rev. Katherine Burgess said she heard God’s calling. That led her to a degree in Theology at McGill University and, finally, to St. Andrews Church.

Course in genealogy, an introduction

An introductory level course in genealogy begins at 9 a.m., Sept. 12, when the first of three sessions will be held in Carter Hall, next to the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity at 31 rue des Jardins.

The course is being offered by Rosemary Bachelor, a professional genealogist and retired genealogical publisher.
