Jean Pelletier takes his seat in City Hall following his party’s sweeping election victory in 1977.

On January 10, after a long battle with colon cancer, Jean Pelletier, erstwhile mayor of Quebec City and chief of staff under former prime minister Jean Chretien, died at the age of 73. Pelletier passed away in his beloved home town and his beloved country -- the two entities to which he dedicated his life's work.
