OBITUARY: Ernest LaCouvee (1934-2022)
Ernest Harvey LaCouvee passed away peacefully on June 18, 2022 at the CHUL hospital in Quebec City with family by his side.
He was born June 22, 1934 to Norman and Irene (Harvey) LaCouvee in Quebec City. He worked at the Pulp and Paper Mill for 38 years, retiring at age 57.
Ernest enjoyed watching curling, golf and football. He also enjoyed playing all three; he played on the football and curling teams while attending Quebec High School. His favourite football team was whichever one his favourite player, Tom Brady, played for.
Along with his father and brothers, Ernest built a cottage at Lac St. Joseph, and it was enjoyed by family for decades.
We could rely on Dad or Poppy calling to inform us when a special show or sporting event would be airing on TV. This was his way of connecting with all of us from afar.
He could never be convinced to move to Ontario, as he would always respond, “I was born in Quebec City and I plan on dying here.”
Quebec City being the beautiful place it is, no one could blame him for feeling that way.
He was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Irene LaCouvee, his brothers Norman and George and his granddaughter Melissa.
He treasured his children, Brian, Linda and Glen.
He loved talking with and hearing about the accomplishments and successes of his grandchildren, Melissa, Jennifer, Russell, Amanda, Austin and Danielle, as well as his great-granddaughter Iris.
His wonderful, loving spirit is already dearly missed by all and will be lovingly remembered always and forever.
A favourite song of Ernest’s was Tom Jones’ “Green Green Grass Of Home,” and hearing that song will always bring a tear to our eyes.
Our entire family are very grateful for the wonderful and loving care he received from all the staff and caregivers at the Manoir Saint-Louis retirement home and all the nurses, doctors and staff at the CHUL hospital.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
