In addition to the annual Saint Brigid’s-Jeffery Hale art exhibit was a focus on the history of the institution’s two former entities. Taylor returns safe and sound from Afghanistan
Base Valcartier troops are back from Afghanistan. Major Walter Taylor, Squadron Commander of the 53 Combat Engineer Squadron, is safe and sound. Now it’s time for him to spend his five weeks’ holidays with his wife, Sonja, and his parents, Helga and Garth Taylor, from Ottawa.

Tom White in action!
Quebec City artist Tom White has been painting his eggs during the 40 days of Lent for the past 35 years. He begins “when the sap rises in the spring,” he explained, “when life comes back to the earth.” White’s eggs are colourful and feature friendly faces and animals. “I always sign them first; if I don’t, I have no place.” This year’s eggs are signed Quebec 400.
Author Mélanie Watt charms kids of all ages
Some 22 children and a few adults snuck out to La Maison Anglaise last Saturday to meet Mélanie Watt, author of the Scaredy Squirrel series of books for kids. Watt signed books for fans who stood in line to speak with her. She read her latest book, Scaredy Squirrel at the Beach. There was even a beach for the children to sit on, complete with an inflatable palm tree.
St-Vincent-de-Paul church
Our Mayor seems to be more worried about what other people might think about the ruins of the former St-Vincent-de-Paul church, perched precariously at the top of Côte d’Abraham, than saving a part of our city’s heritage.
More troops head home to Valcartier
Like the old song says, yellow ribbons can be seen around Base Valcartier, their bows a cheery welcome for homebound troops back from service in Afghanistan. Tuesday, February 26 saw the return of the eighth contingent since February 5. Welcome home! Please see pages 10 and 11 for an update on the shoes for Afghanistan project.
