Saint Brigid’s tackling stomach bug

Saint Brigid’s Home had two floors under quarantine as of late Thursday when a number of cases of gastroenteritis appeared. Both residents and some 19 staff members had been affected as of Monday. The cause of the outbreak was unknown as of Monday.

Resident activities were cancelled at the home as of Friday.

A new look at Military History of Quebec City launched

Military History of Quebec City: 1608-2008 was launched this week in time to help celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city. Historians and military scholars Serge Bernier, Jacques Castonguay, André Charbonneau, Yvon Desloges and Larry Ostola have put together a work that shines a light on Quebec City’s different regimes and roles, beginning with the organization of New France.

The Stanstead College Senior Girls basketball team did it again this past weekend, this time at the Bailly Small Schools Provincial Tournament at Bishop’s College School. And this time they did it in storybook fashion.

Last Friday night, the St. Lawrence AAA Women’s Basketball team set a new benchmark for their program by beating the Volontaires de Sherbrooke by a score of 104-71. This win confirmed the participation of the team in the Provincial Championships for the first time in the program’s history.

The annual Calgary contingent did not go unnoticed at Base Valcartier, old Quebec and Charlesbourg this Carnival season. Calgary and Quebec City are sister cities and so they celebrate at the other’s big festival each year. The Quebec City crew will head out for another Stampede run this summer to share Quebec delicacies such as maple sugar.

Lady Lions come out with two big wins

In a battle for a spot in the provincials, the St. Lawrence Lady Lions clinched two very important wins on the weekend.

Trailing by 10 points in the third quarter of their first game, the Lions eventually came out with a 61-57 win over the Diablos of Trois Rivières. Kathryn Bariault and Gabrielle Côté-Caouette had hot hands with a combined 29 points for the Lions.
