On March 21, several thousand people marched through downtown Montreal calling for an end to anti-Asian racism, which many said has become more virulent in Quebec and around North America since the COVID-19 pandemic began. More than 200 people participated in a solidarity march in Quebec City on the same afternoon.

The recent murders of eight people in Atlanta drew attention to the anti-Asian violence that has been simmering throughout North America since the COVID-19 pandemic first began.

The novel coronavirus was called the Chinese or Wuhan flu early in the pandemic, and later on, former American president Donald Trump referred to it as the “kung flu.”
