Roald Amundsen: the man who stole the Pole

Roald Amundsen’s South Pole expedition ship Fram, is shown under sail in Antarctic waters in 1911. The 39-metre-long three-masted schooner was outfitted with a diesel engine for the voyage.

Some 50 people made their way through the worst winter storm to hit Quebec City this winter on Feb. 7 to attend a talk at Université Laval about a famous expedition to the South Pole. Just walking from the parking lot through the blizzard to the pavilion for the event gave them a small idea of what the Norwegian explorers might have experienced.
