The story behind Rue Douglas

The ruins of Balvenie Castle, a stronghold of the Douglas Clan from 1362 to 1455 and seat of John Douglas, Lord of Balvenie.

This street was named to commemorate Clan Douglas, one of Scotland’s most powerful families, and certainly the most prominent family in lowland Scotland in the Late Middle Ages, often holding the real power behind the throne of the Stewart kings.
