OBITUARY: Patricia “Pattice” Mary Powell HUGHES (née Williams) (1931-2023)
OBITUARY: Patricia “Pattice” Mary Powell HUGHES (née Williams) (1931-2023)
Patricia “Pattice” Mary Powell Hughes (née Williams), a resident of Quebec City for close to 25 years, and lately a resident of Stratford, Ontario, died on March 1, 2023, at the age of 91. Married for 60 years to Donald Hughes (d. 2021), she leaves her daughters Aphra, Chione (Paul Robinson), and Benedicta (Tom Diavolitsis); and her grandchildren Nicholas, Victoria, Hugh, Clemency, Isabel, Samuel, Jeremy, Oliver and Esme. She was predeceased by her son Joachim (1978) and daughter Tertia (1998).
Pattice was born in Oxford, England, travelled the world and then settled in Canada. Funny, clever and warm, Pattice presided over a large, happy household where friends were as welcome as family and there was always laughter around the table. She loved books and music. She had a wonderful voice and sang in many choirs. A firm advocate for girls’ education, she was very proud that all her daughters had university degrees.
A private funeral took place with immediate family and close friends only. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity which Pattice had supported for the past few years, Days For Girls (daysforgirls.org), or a similar organization, through the W.G. Young Funeral Home (430 Huron Street, Stratford, Ont., 519-271-7411, wgyoungfuneralhome.com).
