OBITUARY: Gerald Gordon ARMSTRONG

Gerald Gordon ARMSTRONG

1930-2021

It is with heavy hearts that we would like to inform you of the passing of Gerald Armstrong on September 1, 2021, at Centre hospitalier de l’Université Laval (CHUL), Quebec City at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his loving wife Frances Johnston Armstrong in November 2020.

Gerald was the beloved father of Janet Emmott (Neil), Sheila Armstrong and Peter Armstrong (Helen). He leaves his cherished grandchildren: Lucy, Alex (Vanessa), Jennifer (Tristan), Sarah and James, as well as his great-grandchildren Fox and Lion. Gerald was the loving son of James Gordon Armstrong and Ethel LaSalla Cathcart as well as brother to the late Bernice Gallup (Milton), and the late Joyce Drouin (Philibert).

Gerald was a proud Mason, as well as a dedicated member of Trinity Church (Sainte-Foy). Some of his happiest moments were spending time with family and friends outdoors by a lake where he could fish, ski and snowmobile. Golfing and playing bridge became his passion after his retirement from the CNR in 1988. A proud moment for Gerald was his hole-in-one, 7th hole at the Belvedere Golf Course, PEI. Gerald will be missed by many friends as well as his nieces and nephews.

A service will be held when appropriate, delayed by the pandemic. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Jersey Mills Cemetery in Saint-Georges de Beauce which Gerald helped maintain for many years. Auditions being held for ‘Just Say the Word’

Local playwright J.P. Chartier has penned his fourth musical, called Just Say the Word, and will be excited to share it with the public in June 2022. He and his production team will be holding auditions for all roles on Sept. 24 and 28.

“If you have ever wanted to find yourself onstage bringing a musical to life, then this is for you!” said Chartier. Coming off the success of his previous musical What if? in 2017 and the remount in 2019 in both Quebec City and Ottawa, Chartier can’t wait to present his latest full-length musical at La Méduse from June 15 to 18, 2022.

Just Say the Word boasts a cast of 20 with just as many original songs to fill a two-hour show. Chartier explained, “This exciting musical includes a range of songs with a little bit of hip hop, power ballads, ensemble pieces and I even wrote a sea shanty to round it all out.”

This cast requires both kids (age 10+) and adults to fill the many principal and secondary roles, making this an incredible opportunity for the anglophone community of all ages. Interested artists can contact the team at info@artbeattheatre.ca or by phone at 418-473-3690.
