1935 – 2019

Tomas Feininger, husband of Johanne Piché, son of the late Gertrud Hägg and the late Andreas Feininger, died at Saint-Sacrement Hospital on Nov. 26, 2019 at the age of 84 years and two months.
He leaves to mourn his daughters Anna (Colleen Kennelly), Erica (Laurent Begué) and Ingrid (Paul Townsend) as well as his grandchildren Annaliese, Elsa, Lucy, James, Veronica and Greta. He also leaves to mourn his dear friend Per Christiansen, his cousin and friend Camilla Modeer, his cousins Charles, Conrad and Lucas Feininger; his former wife Donna Klimoska, the mother of his children; his brothers-in-law Yvon and Richard Piché and their wives France and Françoise, and their children.
An eminent geologist, Tomas Feininger first worked in Ecuador, where he founded the Department of Geology at the Escuela Politécnica Nacional (National Polytechnic School). He arrived in Quebec City in 1978 to become a researcher at the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering of Université Laval. He went on to work as a geologist at the Department of Global Physics for the Geological Survey of Canada, before returning to teaching as an adjunct professor at the Department of Geology at Université Laval. At the same time, he initiated and participated in the geological mapping of territories in South and North America, notably in Quebec, and published numerous articles in various specialized scientific publications.
Tomas was also very involved in his community, and everyone remembers him as a warm, generous and engaging person, especially with his friends and fellow citizens of Old Quebec, where he had lived since the 1980s, as well as the members of the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec (Morrin Centre), of which he was president from 1993 to 1998.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private ceremony will take place at a later date.
