Good Friday Procession of the Cross in Old Quebec
The 18th annual ecumenical and bilingual Good Friday Procession of the Cross will take place on March 30, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Chalmers-Wesley United Church, 78 Rue Sainte-Ursule in Old Quebec.
Dr. Gary Kobinger wins prestigious Manning Innovation Award
$100,000 prize for developing antiviral against deadly Ebola Virus Disease
The Ernest C. Manning Awards Foundation recently announced that Dr. Gary Kobinger of Quebec City and his research partner, Dr. Xiangguo Qiu, have won the 2017 Manning Innovation Principal Award for developing ZMapp™, the world’s first Ebola Virus Disease antiviral. The award was presented at the Manning Innovation Symposium held in Toronto on Nov. 30.
Augustines recognized for contributions to health care
A special ceremony took place in the Augustine Monastery de la Miséricorde de Jésus à Québec on August 1 and a plaque was unveiled that will be later be installed in the courtyard of the Monastery. The large bronze plaque was provided by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada and Parks Canada.
Valcartier receives a birthday gift from Mont Saint-Sacrement School
The Municipality of Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier recently received a colourful birthday gift from the students at École secondaire Mont Saint-Sacrement (MSS).
Last year, the school, which traces its origins to the former Valcartier Ski Lodge, celebrated its 60th anniversary at the same time the municipality was marking the 200th year since the settlement began.
James Allan named 2017 Scotsman of the Year
James Allan of Kinnear’s Mills was named the 2017 Scotsman of the Year by the Quebec Thistle Committee of the St. Andrew’s Society of Montreal during the Auld Alliance Awards Ceremony held at the Officer’s Mess of the Black Watch Armoury in Montreal on April 29.
Congratulations, Dr. Louisa Blair
Well-known local author Louisa Blair received her Doctorate in Practical Theology (DPT) at the convocation exercises held at Université Laval on June 17, 2017.
The title of her thesis (written in French, translated to English for the QCT) was, In what sense is literary creation a Christian vocation?
