On Monday, June 15, 2020, Violet “Vi” Kirkwood (nee Sharp), our beautiful mother, grand and great-grandmother, left us peacefully in her sleep. She was 97 years of age.

Born, 1923, to Scottish immigrants in her beloved Quebec City, the young redhead met and married Gilbert Kirkwood (1921-1997). Vi and Gib raised their family in Sillery, Quebec. Her children, Heather (Mal Chisholm), Arisaig, N.S.; Gary Kirkwood (Joan Ward), Burlington, Ont.; Elizabeth (Mike Saville), Burlington, Ont.; and Katherine (Brian Dinan), La Tuque, Que.; her 13 grand and 21 great-grandchildren will always be grateful for her Scottish wisdom, the warm hearth and home she created and her enduring love. She inspired us all with her creativity in baking, sewing and art, portraying Quebec City and environs.

A devout Presbyterian, Vi served as an Elder of St. Andrew’s, Quebec. Our heartfelt thanks to her special caregiver, Lise Rousseau, whom we acknowledge as a loved family member. We also praise the wonderful staff at Saint Brigid’s Home. A celebration of her life will be held in Quebec within the year.
