Matthew Weston meets aplastic anemia head-on

In the summers of 2010 and 2011, Matthew Weston represented Team Quebec at the Canadian National Basketball Championships in Winnipeg and Toronto. But on April 15, 2013, his 17th birthday, the young man was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a rare bone-marrow disease that affects about 35 Canadians per year.

The gymnasium at Everest Elementary School was buzzing with pre-assembly excitement last Thursday afternoon as staff and students settled into place for the inauguration ceremony that had been so long in coming. 

Champlain–St. Lawrence raises over $5,200 for Leucan

On April 21, three students and one teacher of Champlain-St. Lawrence and one Université Laval staff member stepped up to the campus' fourth annual Leucan Shaved Head Challenge. Participants faced a crowded cafeteria with nervous smiles as classmates and colleagues cheered them on.   

Weisner and Moreno grab top honours at QHS Q Factor

Quebec High School's acoustic duo Naomi Weisner and Joshua Moreno triumphed over a talented field to take top honours at the school's first annual talent competition, the Q Factor. Over 30 students and teachers, with talents ranging from musical theatre and martial arts to puppetry, auditioned for the event.

Hedleyville was a sector of Limoilou named after William Hedley Anderson, who was born in Quebec City. Rue Hedleyville was named for the man and the village.

Holy Trinity Cathedral's La Petite Série presented its penultimate concert on April 23, a sublime performance by pianist Nataliya Labiau, cellist Dominic Painchaud and violinist Noëlla Bouchard.

It may not have taken a lot of stage rehearsal but St. Patrick's High School put on quite the show last Thursday. The high school packed a room for their spectacular talent show featuring a variety of multi-talented and musically inclined students.
