Art and all that jazz at the MNBAQ

A very unusual concert took place in the auditorium of the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec (MNBAQ) on Feb. 7. You had to be a pretty determined lover of art and jazz to venture out in the winter storm that had been raging outside all day, and – most of the seats in the auditorium were filled.

Concordia stings the Rouge et Or basketball teams

The Concordia University Stingers did not do any favours for the Université Laval Rouge et Or in the four basketball games played last week.

The Stingers women’s team surprised the Rouge et Or on Laval’s home court with an easy 66-51 victory on Feb. 6. That same night, the Rouge et Or men’s team was no match for the Stingers, losing 90-59.

Fighting Irish hockey teams come up empty-handed in Beauceville Classic

The Under 15 (U15) and the Under 17 (U17) hockey teams from St. Patrick’s High School came back empty-handed from the Classique Scolaire de Hockey de Beauceville, when both teams lost in the semifinals on Feb. 9. Six teams were competing in the U17 division, with two pools of three teams playing against each other.

Western Pre-Race Event served thousands of sausages and pancakes

Crowds of people enjoyed the Western Pre-Race Event on Quai 21 at the Quebec Port. Over 3,000 flapjacks and sausages prepared by the City of Calgary and the Calgary Stampede were cooked and served up to a hungry crowd, as they listened to country music performed by the High Steppin’ Daddy band.

Morrin Centre volunteers treated to a roaring ’20s good time

One of the perks of helping out at the Morrin Centre is being invited to the annual party where the staff show volunteers how much they are appreciated.

Quebec City Women’s Club workout at the MissFit gym

Fitness coach Myriam Paquin put the brave few members of the Quebec City Women’s Club who dared go out on Feb. 8, the day after the snowstorm of 2020, through their paces at the MissFit gym. She prepared an hour-long fun workout routine, adaptable for all. A special thanks to Myriam and MissFit for giving us this opportunity.

Peewees take over the Videotron Centre

The 61st edition of the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament got underway at the Videotron Centre on Feb. 12 and will end with the finals in all five categories on Feb. 23.

Players on 120 teams will vie to take home the championship trophy and banner.

Sports briefs: Volleyball, Remparts and AAA Midget Hockey

The Université Laval Rouge et Or men’s volleyball team swept their weekend series against the Dalhousie Tigers from Halifax on Feb. 7 and 8 at the Amphithéâtre Desjardins. The Rouge et Or beat the Tigers 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-21) on Friday. The next night, Laval easily handled Dalhousie 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-21).

A busy weekend for the St. Lawrence College sports teams

The CEGEP Champlain–St. Lawrence basketball teams were in action on Feb. 9 when both the women’s and the men’s teams played the Élans from Cégep Garneau.
