Quebec warmly welcomes war heroes home

Quebec City was abuzz with activity 100 years ago at the end of the First World War. Canadian troops arriving home by ship landed first in Halifax, then proceeded by rail to the Gare du Palais in Quebec City. In this way, thousands of soldiers were funnelled through Lower Town on their way home to all parts of Canada.

CEGEP Champlain–St. Lawrence celebrates student life

The annual CEGEP Champlain–St. Lawrence Socio-Cultural Banquet was held in the iA Financial Group Auditorium on April 25. Club and group members gathered to honour contributions made to student life during the 2018-19 academic year. The student activities department recognized the involvement of many individuals in their respective groups and events.

The story behind Rue Charlebois

This street is named in honour of singer, actor, composer and songwriter Robert Charlebois, born in 1944 in Montreal. With a musical career that spans half a century, he is considered the godfather of Quebec rock.

New Wellness logo revealed

The new Wellness logo is a visual sub-brand of the “mother brand” of Jeffery Hale–Saint Brigid’s and Jeffery Hale Community Partners. It uses the same colours and fonts and the shared physical “family” traits of the oval and shamrock.

Noises Off is ready to take off

It’s the door-slammer of all door-slammers. Some tickets are still available for a very rare theatrical event courtesy of the Quebec Art Company. Noises Off takes to the stage at CEGEP St. Lawrence for four performances from May 16 to 19.

A night at the Opéra de Québec with Nabucco

Nabucco, Giuseppe Verdi’s opera about Nebuchadnezzar II, the king of Babylon (c. 634-562 BC), was presented at the Grand Théâtre on May 11, 14, 16 and 18. If you receive this newspaper by its publication date, May 15, you may still have a chance to see the Thursday or Saturday evening performance.
