Valcartier hosts the CQSB Performing Arts Festival

On Friday, April 26 the Central Québec School Board Performing Arts Festival was held in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, for the first time in its 16-year history.

Valcartier Elementary School, in collaboration with the Municipality of Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, hosted the event in three different buildings.

Moms’ Nite-Out Toys and More Bazaar was a success

The Jeffery Hale Student Centre at CEGEP Champlain–St. Lawrence was transformed into a bazaar on May 4 by the Moms’ Nite-Out group, which organizes an annual garage-sale style market. People reserve their tables in advance to sell used sports gear, toys, clothes, books and so much more.

SLC Bake Sale raises $1,250 for MS Walk

CEGEP Champlain–St. Lawrence Campus is a very socially aware college, and works to benefit a variety of organizations. From fundraising campaigns to volunteering, the staff and students are always looking for new ways to help others. The latest effort took place from April 29 to May 1. Biology lab technician Diane Denault organized a bake sale, which raised $1,250 for MS Walk.

Coffee …. Around the world, people seem to need this tasty hot beverage to start the day, and Canadians do love their coffee. We are close to the top of the list of coffee-consuming countries, beaten only by Finland and the Netherlands.

Luxury condo project finally replacing Bégin butcher building

After seven years of uncertainty, the former Boucherie W.E. Bégin building on Rue Saint-Jean, at the corner of Rue Sainte-Claire, will be demolished, starting this month.

The abandoned building, more of nostalgic value than historic, will be replaced by 10 luxury co-property units, called 500 Saint-Jean, which the promoter says will be available for occupancy by the end of this year.

The Great Famine Voices Roadshow 2019 is a series of open house events in the United States and Canada that brings together Irish emigrants, their descendants, and members of their communities to share family memories and stories of coming from Ireland to North America, especially during the period of the Great Hunger and afterwards.

Quebecers flocked to the Quartier Petit Champlain and the Capitole de Québec theatre for the ninth Festival de magie de Québec from May 2 to 5.

Some 5,000 runners were at the starting line of the 16th annual Lévis Half-Marathon and organizers were delighted that new records were set both in the men’s and the women’s categories.
