Game and Toy Show attracts people of all ages

Board games, video games, blocks, escape-room games, figurines, memorabilia and everything in between was on display at the Centre de Foires over the weekend. On Nov. 16 and 17, the Game and Toy Show was packed. Ten thousand people of all ages came last weekend to try out all sorts of games, most of which were technology-free.

Quebec City expands New Year’s bash to four days

Drawing on the success of previous New Year’s Eve parties on Grande Allée, organizers have created a four-day year-end bash called Toboggan featuring some popular music acts.

It’s a bit like the Festival d’Été de Québec (FEQ) in winter, as one would expect from 3E, the same folks who organize the wildly successful summer music festival.

Irish Immigrants in Sainte-Catherine-de-Fossambault

The Société d’histoire Catherinoise hosted a talk by guest speaker Daniel Stewart on Nov. 13, about “The Irish Immigrants in Sainte-Catherine-de-Fossambault.” Stewart shared his passion about the history of the Irish community in this part of the province with the large group of people who attended the talk.

St. Michael’s church hall to be renovated as multi-use facility

In what many would see as a pleasantly surprising turn of events, St. Michael’s Anglican church hall on Chemin Saint-Louis will not be sold and transformed into condominiums, as had been generally speculated.

Claire Hardy, wife of Donald Dawson, died at Jeffery Hale Hospital on Nov. 12, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the daughter of the late Allan Hardy and the late Claire Légaré. She lived in Quebec City.

Fighting Irish U17 sweep hockey showdown in Rimouski

The St. Patrick’s High School Fighting Irish Under 17 (U17) Majors came back from Rimouski with two wins in two games in the Ligue de Hockey Préparatoire Scolaire (LHPS).

On Nov. 15, Jérémy Boudreau, Storm Blackned and Elijah Nuktie each scored one goal, contributing to St. Pat’s 4-3 shootout win over the Sélects from École secondaire Paul-Hubert of Rimouski.

SLC Lions teams enjoy a winning weekend

If you should cross paths with a CEGEP Champlain–St. Lawrence athlete in the city, you might see him or her wearing a big smile. The reason? The Lions sports teams are enjoying a winning month of November.

Rouge et Or basketball season now underway

With the football, soccer, and rugby seasons over, it is now time for basketball at Université Laval.

On Nov. 16, both the women’s and men’s teams had their home openers at the Amphithéâtre Desjardins against the Concordia University Stingers. In front of 1,350 rowdy fans, the Laval teams had great opening games but left disappointed after the second one.
